Popfest UK Postgraduate Population Science conference

Hi folks, Just a quick update on what has been happening here at St Andrews in preparation for popfest 2010. Firstly, thanks to all who have submitted abstracts, looks like we should be in for an exciting programme! Now that we have all of the abstracts we will be busy in the next few weeks putting together the programme.

We would also like to announce that we are able to offer delegates travel burasaries to help with the cost of travelling to the conference here in St Andrews. More details about this can be found under the travel bursaries section.

Finally, we have designed a poster to help with the publicity for the event which can be downloaded here. Please feel free to distribute the poster to anyone who you feel may be interested in attending, particularly those people who want to attend but who do not want to present a paper.

Due to the problems we have had with the website, we have decided to extend the deadline for submitting an abstract until the 19th March. Please spread the word to anyone else in your department who might be interested in submitting a paper and who missed the original deadline. We will send out another call for papers shortly with all the details.

Thanks to those of you who have already submitted an abstract – lots of interesting stuff! We will be in touch in due course to confirm acceptance. We look forward to meeting you all in June!

We are very pleased to confirm our two keynote speakers at this years popfest. They will be Dr. Catherine De Wenden who is a senior research fellow at the Centre for International Studies and Research in Paris  and Dr. Tomas Sobotka who is a research scientist at the Vienna Institute of Demography. We are very grateful to both for agreeing to take the time to come over to Scotland to attend popfest. Keep checking the website for more information in the coming weeks!

The popfest website has been experiencing some technical difficulties this past couple of days which resulted in the site being temporaily taken down. We have recreated the site now which should have resolved the problem although we may still have some broken links to fix which we will try and do as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and apologise for any inconvenience. We hope to see your abstracts in the coming days!

We are pleased to announce that registration for popfest 2010 is now open and will remain open until 7th June 2010. Please note that the registration system will shut down after this date and you will no longer be able to register. Get signed up early to avoid disappointment as places are limited! All the details you will need to register can be found under the registration link on the left hand side of this page. We look forward to welcoming you to St Andrews in June!

The sponsors for popfest 2010 have now been confirmed! Please take a look at the sponsors link to read about the organisations that have confirmed financial support for this years event.  Their support has enabled us to think about some exciting items for the programme which we will announce nearer the time. The organising committee are extremely grateful for the level of support that has been received and would like to thank all the organisations for their generosity.

In other news, preparations for the event are going well! We are planning to issue a second call for papers in the coming weeks and hope to announce our keynote speakers not long after that. Also, the registration system for the event is being finalised and we will announce this as up and running within a week or two. In the meantime keep the abstracts coming in and keep checking the website for updates!
